Vatican City is classified as both a city and a state, so the capital of the state is Vatican City. Vatican City is itself within the city of Rome, Italy. It sits on the Tiber River, completely surrounded by the city of Rome. With about 800 perople, it's also the world's smallest state.

 

There are about five official languages in the Vatican City and they include English, French, Italian and Spanish. There is also Holy See, which is Latin.

 

The euro is the official currency of the Vatican City, although the Vatican is not a member of the European Union.

 

There aren't any patrons of Vatican City.

Almost any time of the year can be a good time to visit Vatican City. This beautiful city can be stiflingly hot and humid in the summer, especially during July and August. Make sure you reserve your hotel early in summer, and you'll probably want air conditioning.

Winters in The Vatican City are wet and a bit chilly. Nighttime temperatures may fall below freezing from November to March.
